Employers Urged to Provide a Stress Free Work Atmosphere
During the present economic crisis affecting the entire world, it has become quite common to pressurise employees with more work, However, experts have warned employers in Britain to lighten the workload on their employees in order to reduce the strain of work on them.
The President of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, Nattasha Freeman, stresses on the importance of employers helping their employees at work through the present economic situation.
Another work ethic prevalent today that is harmful to employees is that they are expected to meet stressful deadlines, along with constantly living in the fear of losing their work. It is also noticed that their compensation is not at par with the present cost of living and on the contrary, has been reduced as part of cost cutting measures by the employers.
According to a latest survey conducted by You Gov for IOSH, around 44%of employees felt burdened with extra work and two thirds of them are concerned with the uncertainties regarding their jobs, while 13% employees felt quite strained in their jobs.
There is an urgent need to prevent employees from being affected by stress related ailments, mainly due to increasing cases of lay offs. Men in particular, who are under constant stress should be guided to seek medical help. Stress management is an important part of good management. It not only leads to increased motivation and dedication among employees but also results in fewer conflicts.
