The Impact of Divorce on Families
As a licensed mental health professional, I work with many individuals, couples, and families who are affected by divorce. I see the devastating effects that breakups can have and am dedicated to helping people develop the skills to cope with experiences like divorce.
Major Disruptions
The decision to divorce causes major changes in the lives of all family members. Some upheaval is inevitable. The main trouble areas are:
1. Financial: Money becomes a huge problem for most people. The cost of a divorce is extremely high, and two households cost more than one.
2. Career: Being less focused at work and spending time away from the job for divorce-related appointments takes its toll.
3. Logistics: Running your home is more difficult because you no longer have a partner to help with daily chores.
4. Emotional: Most people have periods of depression, sadness, anger, and fatigue.
Lots of Feelings
People who are experiencing the breakup of their marriage can expect to have a wide variety of feelings. Some call it “the crazy time” and there is even a book about divorce with this title. The following complaints are common:
• Poor concentration
• Nightmares
• Sleep problems
• Fatigue
• Mood swings
• Feeling tense
• Nausea
• Gaining/losing weight
• Feeling nervous
• Somatic complaints
Divorce profoundly affects children. In Surviving the Breakup, author Judith Wallerstein describes the experience of 60 divorcing families. She outlines the following key issues for children of divorcing families:
Fear: Divorce is frightening to children, and they often respond with feelings of anxiety. Children feel more vulnerable after a divorce because their world has become less reliable.
Fear of abandonment: One-third of the children in Wallerstein’s study feared that their mother would abandon them.
Confusion: The children in divorcing families become confused about their relationships with their parents. They see their parents’ relationship fall apart and sometimes conclude that their own relationship with one or both parents could dissolve, as well.
Sadness and yearning: More than half of the children in the Wallerstein study were openly tearful and sad in response to the losses they experienced. Two-thirds expressed yearning, for example: “We need a daddy. We don’t have a daddy.”
Worry: In Wallerstein’s study, many children expressed concern about one or both of their parents’ ability to cope with their lives. They wondered if their parents were emotionally stable and able to make it on their own.
Over half of the children expressed deep worries about their mothers. They witnessed their mothers’ mood swings and emotional reactions to the events in the family. Some children worried about suicide and accidents.
Feeling rejected: Many children who experience a parent moving out of the home feel rejected by the parent. The parent is usually preoccupied with problems and pays less attention to the child than in the past. Many children take this personally and feel rejected and unlovable.
Loneliness: Since both parents are preoccupied with their problems during the divorce process, they are less able to fulfill their parenting roles with their children. The children may feel like their parents are slipping away from them. If the father has moved away and the mother has gone off to work, the children often feel profound loneliness.
Divided loyalties: The children may (accurately) perceive that the parents are in a battle with each other. The children feel pulled in both directions and may resolve the dilemma by siding with one parent against another.
Anger: Children in divorcing families experience more aggression and anger. It is often directed toward the parents, expressed in tantrums, irritability, resentment, and verbal attacks. Many children see the divorce as a selfish act and feel very resentful about the resulting destruction of their lives.
More than one-third of the children in Judith Wallerstein’s study showed acute depressive symptoms such as sleeplessness, restlessness, difficulty in concentrating, deep sighing, feelings of emptiness, compulsive overeating, and various somatic complaints.
The symptoms that many children may have during the divorce process either moderate or disappear within 18 months after the breakup. Of the symptoms that remain, the most common are:
1. Manipulative behavior was reported by about 20% of the teachers of the children in Wallerstein’s study.
2. Depression was diagnosed in 25% of the children and adolescents. The symptoms of depression in children include:
• Low self-esteem
• Inability to concentrate
• Sadness
• Mood swings
• Irritability
• Secretiveness
• Isolation
• Self-blame
• Eating disorders
• Behaving perfectly
• Being accident-prone
• Stealing
• Skipping school
• Underachieving at school
• Sexual acting out
You should consider finding a therapist to work with if most of the time you feel:
• Alone
• Depressed
• Numb
• Exhausted
• Isolated
• Hopeless
• Overwhelmed by your children
• Overwhelmed by your feelings
• You are sleeping too much or too little
• Worried
• Anxious
• Afraid

How to Play Safely with Your Westie Puppies!
Just like children, westie puppies learn through play. Playing games with your west highland white terrier pups creates an opportunity to train them to obey your commands, gives them valuable exercise, and helps to build their strength, coordination, and agility. It is also fun for everyone.
Before you start playing games, there are some rules you should know, and safety precautions you should take. Your pups need to really run, not just walk on a leash, but be sure any area you play in has a fence. If they are city dogs, try finding a fenced-in tennis court for play. As a last resort, keep the puppy on an extra-long line. You do not want them to wander free until you are certain they will return on your command.
Never encourage your west highland pups to jump. The young bones are fragile, and not able to bear the stress of jumping until the growth plates are fused. Games like Frisbee, or serious agility training, are for older dogs, although there is still much you can do with your westie puppies by having them working at ground level. If you are eager to start these kinds of games, at about one year of age you can take your westies to their veterinarian for an x-ray, to see if the growth plates are completely fused.
Westie pups first learn to play in the litter by roughhousing with their littermates, but at six to eight weeks, the mother westie begins to discourage this behavior. You should discourage it as well, by never roughhousing in ways that allow them to bite, nip, or claw at your hands. A nip from a puppy may seem harmless, but if a full-grown westie nips, you have a behavior problem. It also teaches them that they can dominate you through aggression. If they do manage to get a nip in during play, discourage it in the same way dogs do, by imitating a ‘yelp’ sound.
Always remain in control with your pets. You want to teach them you are the ‘alpha-dog.’ Towards this end, never reward them by chasing after them when they run away from you. Instead, ‘hide’ from your pups, making them come after you. Tug of War games are good, but never allow the dogs to take the tug toy from you. You should be in control of it at all times, deciding when to end the game by taking it from the dog with a ‘give’ command. Never allow your west highland terrier puppies to grab a ball or other toy from your hands.

Try to Avoid Infomercial Gym Equipment
Are there any features to look for more than others when picking out home gym equipment? This brief article is about what I think someone buying a home ought to deliberate. First, home gyms seem to be everywhere. You can buy a home gym from any sporting goods vendor, and even tv. However, all these home gyms appear to have one thing in common. Largely, seem fragile and do not appear built for the long term.
Another aspect that I observed the last time I checked out a home gym at a local store, besides the bad construction, is that so numerous home gyms fail to be home gyms. In Truth, they are independent elements of fitness equipmentofttimes planned to accomplish 1 or two exercises real comfortably. Or they appear to be formulated to work simply stages or to work out simply musculus pectoralis, or to exercise just shoulder joints, or exercise just abdominals. In Reality, there seems to be a tremendous amount of abdominal muscle fitness equipment sold on Television 30 minutes advertisements.
Now, I am not articulating that working out an autonomous bodypart is necessarily a poor idea. However, it appears to me that if someone desires a home gym, then you ought be trying for something that many of today’s gym equipment disregard to offer, and that is the versatility. Or what appears to happen much also is that if the home gym does offer versatility, it is chintzily constructed.
Thus, in order to choose from unlimited possibilities of home gyms available are two things. Expect for quality and look for versatility. Of course, one inevitably to be their judge of how much you want to pay. We all know that the better the quality and themore versitile the more it will cost. Even So, the net result is that if you are serious about not only getting into shape but staying in shape you need to buy something that is durable and that you will not get bored of using in a couple months.
It is just so important, I think, to select home gym equipment that supplies versatility and variety in your physical exercise programme. Muscles grow accustomed to doing the same thing all the time. Once the bodypart accommodates results are accomplished with bigger difficulty. This lack of results can even cause you to quit. It is very motivational when a person gazes in the mirror and continues to view success. To get those results you require to be looking at highly built home gyms contrived to last, work out more than just one body part, and allow for various exercises for every last body part.

“How to Keep Your Cat Free from Diseases with Your Quick Gui
Even a cat that compulsively cleans itself can benefit from a little grooming from her owner. Cats rarely need a bath, but frequent brushing removes a lot of loose hair which would otherwise end up either shed around your home or swallowed by the cat, creating constipating hairballs. Grooming your cat on a regular basis also helps you monitor her health and make her easier to handle.
Long-haired cats should be brushed and combed daily; short-haired cats only need grooming about once per week. While brushing your cat’s coat, keep an eye out for lumps and skin irritations. Brush along your cats back, from head to tail with firm pressure. Repeat this several times, and then switch to one side. You should brush each area 4 or 5 times Always remember to brush in the direction of the hair growth.
If you find places where hair is missing, watch your cat for the next week to determine if she is over-grooming these spots, or if the hair loss could be a skin condition that requires a vet’s attention. Be sure to watch for fleas and remove them immediately using a flea comb. If you notice rice-like particles around her anus (or in her bed), she probably has worms and needs medication from a veterinarian.
The grooming session is a good time to check your cat’s ears, eyes, teeth and claws. If your cat is a young kitten, be sure to frequently manipulate these areas to get her used to handling. By the time she is an adult, looking inside her ears for mites will be a non-traumatic event. If your cat is an adult, proceed at her pace. If she will let you touch her ear, but not fold it back to look inside, that’s fine. Each time you groom her, try going a little farther with your examination, praising her with words, strokes, and treats for letting you handle her. If she struggles, it is best to let her go, and try again another day.
You can use a cotton ball slightly dampened with warm water to clean the inside surface of your cat’s ears. Never put a cotton ball or swab into her ear canal. If she reacts and jerks, you could injure her. Dark, coffee ground-like flecks inside her ears indicates possible ear mites. If you also notice her shaking her head or scratching at her ears a lot, or notice a strong odor in her ears, have your vet take a look.
A healthy cat’s eyes are bright, clear and free of discharge.
Lift her upper lip to check her gums, which should be pink, and take a look at her teeth. If you choose to brush your cat’s teeth, be sure to use toothpaste made for cats, as human-type toothpaste can be toxic to your pet. Pet supply stores carry a variety of cat toothpastes, as well as toothbrushes designed to be gentle and easy to use.
When you start to clean your cat’s teeth don’t even use a toothbrush. Stroke the outside of her cheeks with your finger. When she becomes comfortable with that, add a little toothpaste to your finger and let her taste it. C.E.T. poultry flavored toothpaste can be used to start as cats like the taste. When the cat is comfortable you are ready to introduce the toothbrush. With a small amount of toothpaste on the brush, brush two teeth and the adjoining gum line with a slow circular motion. This will get your cat accustomed to the feel of the brush. You will then be able to gradually increase the number of teeth brushed.

What Is Search Engine Optimisation?
Who or what is Search Engine Optimisation Melbourne? They are people willing enough to ensure that you get the best or the heaviest traffic to your website. If you already have the exact and proper HTML tags and keywords needed for the optimisation of your website then, you are ready. They will be able to create links to your website through search engines like Yahoo or Google. By that time, they will be able to have more back links to your site and drive more traffic into it. And to maximize the use of the search engine optimisation, it is better to link pages not only on your frontpage but instead on several more relevant pages of your website. The more relevant linked pages you have, the more you go up with your ranks. And the higher your rank, the more traffic your site will have since it will be posted on the top of the list once you try to search it over a search engine like for example, Yahoo, which is by the way the best way to search engine optimise. So, there you have it. Everything will be very easy once you get the hang of it.

How To Get Your Horse From Pulling Back While Tied
Some people have horses they don’t dare tie. Why? Because they break their halters and/or crossties. So what is a person to do in their horse training practices?
My first suggestion is to get a rope halter. But not just any ol’ rope halter. Get one of those rope halters that are thin because they cut into the horse’s poll more if they pull back. It sends a message to the horse that’s it’s not desirable to pull back.
When you get the rope halter on, tie the lead rope to the halter. Try not to use hardware on the lead rope if possible…instead tie it to the halter.
Next, try tying the lead rope to a tree limb. Find a limb that’s about as thick as your forearm. You want the tree limb to bend some because as the horse pulls back the limb gives but doesn’t break.
A good type of tree to tie to is a willow tree if you can find one. Be careful that the limb isn’t cracked. If the horse pulls back on the limb and it breaks you could really have a wreck.
Leave about two feet of rope between the heel knot and the limb you tie to.
Now here’s how it works. If the horse pulls back, the limb will bend. This lessens the resistance and lessens the desire to pull. Once the horse stops pulling, the limb pulls back - creating pressure - much like a giant rubber band. It causes him to step forward. He will soon get sore around his nose and his neck if keeps pulling.
What you’re after is the horse being uncomfortable when he pulls back. Not only do we want him to have the inability to break loose…we want it to be uncomfortable. We’re wanting Mr. Horse to think to himself that it’s crazy to even try to pull back
If you can’t find a good tree limb to tie to, you can use an inner tube. Make sure it’s good and strong and that you tie it to something good and secure
What’s important now is you must tie up your horse several hours a day - preferably all day - day after day until he is cured of it. There’s only time to untie your horse. If he struggles and gets in a bind where he could be in danger of breaking a leg or neck or choking to death then you untie him.
So once you tie him, you gotta watch him for a while and make sure he’s not going to get himself hurt.

Betting: Gaming Hall Gambling
If you gambling saloon games of luck, then please continue to read — For clarity’s sake: a betting establishment is a house that features betting. Paying Customers are invited to take chances by having a bash at the coin-operated machines or different pastimes of luck. Betting saloon games may include ovious chances informing them which maintain that the gambling organization secures the upper hand versus the gamesters.
Countless betting establishment games may cause you to get hooked in no time. There is the standard one-armed bandit, a coin operated instrument with three or more reels that whirl if a crank on its flank is yanked. The gadget usually will pay up established by a string of pictograms presented on the dials on the gadget. Lamentably, gambling house pastimes will convey a misconception of mental power, tricking the player: the victim is ceded options, but in actual fact these won’t truly level the gamer’s long-term odds. That is brought about by the the gaming hall not paying up the full stake as expected. This policy is often seen at work in acclaimed casino games such as Texas hold’em poker, dice games, roulette or blackjack.
Seven-card stud is truly a highly trendy casino game. The gaming fans, playing with fully concealed hands, place bets into a central pot which is ultimately bestowed onto the last player blessed with the leading hand. (Obviously, the best bluffer may well prevail) Not far removed from poker, blackjack is also an incredibly fashionable casino game. A considerable part of its repute is due to the mix of luck and mastery and decision making, and a method labeled Card Counting. The aforementioned is a craft by which gambling buffs may significantly skew the arm of chance of the game to render them an advantage both by wagering & fundamental actions in correspondence with the cards deployed.
“Craps” is yet another acclaimed gambling hall pastime using the throw of two dice. Clients must risk stakes on the score of 1 spin, or on a string of spins on two dice. Contrary to blackjack, there isn’t any proven sustainable winner system punters can exploit to boost the odds. Roulette is another extremely popular gambling pastime: a croupier twists a roulette wheel which holds thirty seven (classical roulette) or, respectively thirty eight (American or Vegas roulette) distinctively numbered places in which the tossed ball will eventually settle, thus revealing the final winning number Supposing that the participant happens to set their stake on any given number and actually makes it, in other words they are really lucky, the guaranteed reward will be thirty-five to 1, the original stake will be repaid. So in total the pledge itself is increased by a factor of thirty-six.
Do make a point of being cautious as well because such gambling saloon games of luck are indisputably addictive. Uncounted lives have indisputably been ruined by gambling and although it definitely feels like fun, do your best to moderate your play.

How To Build “The Bond” With Your Dog
Building the bond with your dog is really quite easy. If you recognize that you have a relationship with your dog, then building the bond comes down to nothing more than increasing the strength of that relationship.
And as with any relationship, building a bond requires:
1.) Spending quality time together.
2.) Getting out in the world and experiencing life together.
3.) Establishing and promoting a level of mutual respect.
4.) Developing a way of communicating so that both individuals understand the other’s needs. (Hmmm… maybe I should be writing self-help books for humans???)
Let’s take a look at each of these key points to see how they can have a positive affect on your daily dog training:
1.) Spending quality time together.
Spending quality time together does not mean sharing a beer with Fido while the two of you lay in front of the television. Well, okay… maybe it does.
But more importantly, it means committing to a series of rituals and behaviors that you and your dog can look forward to.
For example, I often throw Forbes (the Pit Bull) in the back of the truck when I wake up in the morning and we go for a drive down to the local McDonald’s Drive-thru. For most of the drive, Forbes is either still wiping the sleep out of his eyes, or he’s doing the guard dog routine if someone walks up to the back of the truck.
But the highlight of this morning ritual begins when we get home. It’s Forbes’ job to hop out of the back of the truck and take the empty McDonald’s brown paper bag in his mouth, walk down the drive way, around the gate, into the back yard, and then over to the trash can… where he drops the bag.
Sure, it’s a stupid pet trick. But see how disappointed the dog is when *I* insist on carrying the bag to the trash can!
From the dog’s point of view, it’s the 30 or 40 little things throughout the day (that he can help me with) that make his life worth living. And for the dog, this is spending quality. It all boils down to being an active participant in each other’s lives.
2.) Getting out in the world and experiencing life together:
It had been years since Bud and Janice’s kids had grown and left the house for college and later, corporate jobs. Bud had wanted a dog for several months and Janice finally gave in.
They decided to adopt a beautiful 5 year-old Golden Retriever and proceeded to train “Mac,” using many of the techniques I describe in my book, “Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer!” (To learn more about this book, go to http://hop.clickbank.net/?1greatdog/agkatz).
Janice got scared when Bud came back from his first walk around the neighborhood with “Mac” and ran into the house yelling, “Janice! Janice! You won’t believe what happened!!!”
“Oh my gawd,” though Janice, thinking that perhaps “Mac” had bitten a child, or run away.
“What happened?” Janice questioned her husband.
“You won’t believe it, Janice,” said Bud, “I took ‘Mac’ for a walk… AND PEOPLE ACTUALLY CAME UP AND TALKED TO ME!!!”
Imagine that! Here’s a guy who had lived in the same neighborhood for eight years and didn’t know any of his neighbors until he got a dog and started taking it for walks. Dogs are a wonderful excuse to get you out of the house and interacting with the world around you.
It’s also one of the many reasons that handicapped people like owning service dogs… because it makes it easier for other people to come up and start a conversation.
And do you think that “Mac” minded all of the attention? Absolutely not.
As a matter of fact, I think that my dog Forbes is happiest when we’re out in the world, meeting new people and experiencing new things together. Two best friends, out on the town.
You should see the look on Forbes’ face when two or three beautiful women walk up and start rubbing his belly.
Even better… you should see the look on my face!
3.) Establishing and promoting a level of mutual respect.
Just like with any relationship, there must be mutual trust and respect.
Trust comes with time, and proving to your dog that you will keep him safe and happy.
Respect, just like with human relationships, comes from establishing boundaries and treating any breach of those boundaries with firmness and fairness. Without enforceable boundaries, there is no respect. And when there is no respect, your relationship with your dog will be out of balance. And trust me, when your relationship with your dog is out of balance… nobody’s having fun.
4.) Developing a way of communicating so that both individuals understand the other’s needs.
Developing a way of communicating gets back to laying a proper foundation with your dog training. And this relates specifically to making your praise and your corrections motivational.
Once your dog understands clearly when he’s doing something RIGHT… and when he’s doing something WRONG… a magical thing starts to happen. You find that you are actually COMMUNICATING!!!
And being able to communicate with your dog is what allows you to go anywhere and do anything with your dog and know that he’ll listen to you.
There are four primary ways that dogs communicate with us, and with each other:
1.) Body language.
2.) Vocal tonation and voice inflection.
3.) Touch.
4.) Scent.
All of my dog training techniques try to incorporate as many of these elements as possible. In sum, you can think of dog training as a word that can be easily substituted for the word, “communication.”
Do you want to be able to take your dog anywhere, and KNOW that he’ll listen to you… even if tempted by another dog, a cat, or even a piece of food??? Guide to Auto Insurance in TX
TX Auto Insurance Policy Requirements by Law
- Bodily Injury Liability for one person: $25,000 Limit
- Bodily Injury Liability for every person involved:$50,000 Limit
- Property Damage Liability: $25,000 Limit
*Higher limit requirements went into effect on 04-01-2008
When you’re involved in an accident in Texas, their insurance laws state that a motorist must always be found to be blameable. The auto insurer and the person blameable are then held answerable to compensate for costs. This system is known as the tort system. There are many other states that practice this kinde of system, but specific principles and regulations may change by state.
To have better insurance protection, you can opt for Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage. This coverage option addresses the financial liabilities involved with bodily injury caused in an accident with an uninsured and/or underinsured motorist. The state does not require citizens to add this coverage, but people should look at purchasing this precious optional insurance.
With the average auto insurance premium in Texas at just above $900, and the nationwide average at around a little above $900, plenty of motorists incorrectly think that they have to accept that these Texas auto insurance premiums defined by auto insurance underwriters and Texas governmental agencies. Cyberspace is the best place to begin searching for discounted insurance policies. There are several places that let you directly look over auto insurance rate quotes.
2007 had the first lessening in insurance premiums since 1999. Many people saw a reduction from their 2006 premiums by .5% to 1%. 2008 followed in the first half, but then insurance costs began to follow their normal cycle and go up slightly. Increases like these have been forcing people to see if they can reduce their monthly expenses using auto insurance comparison websites. Utilizing technology, these sites have made it faster to shop for and compare insurance premiums.
Texas costs increase over the years. If you’re not keeping up to date on your own personal situation, you might not be getting the most affordable insurance costs available. In 2003, average costs were $932. Just one year earlier, the average insurance costs in 2002 was about $882, that’s an increase of about 5.67% in just one year! Don’t waste your money paying high premiums, start saving now by getting an online quote from multiple auto insurance comparison websites now.
