11)An October Afternoon in Lima, Peru

The sun sets upon my brow
A book upon my lap
The city’s cars I hear nearby
as a realm of thoughts…
Sink deep into my mind

I am subdued by the cooing birds
And angels that whisper nearby
My body seems to crave the stillness
the beauty of the sky…
And the ocean sounds, nearby

17) The Wild-cats of Huaytapallana (Nevados)

They run wild, the wild-cats of the Nevados

(by Huaytapallana)
their hopes and dreams in a feast of baby-lambs…
Lo! behind hidden rocks, and mountain shadows
Above the fleeting nightthe sky lapse like foam:
Thus, here is where the wild-cats of the Nevados roam:
Roam the stararchival gloom….

Vague on nightno laws, they run: run untamed
Roam the anew dark; born into a world of winds…
Winds and forgotten morn. Lift up your everlasting eyes
(I cry!…)
To wars unknownto the hunters and farmers

Of Huaytapllana, and the Nevados…whom will kill you…
At blood-red dusk; yes, ah! Yes…

They die a sullen death: poisoned wild-cat (s)!
A heritage of overdue fate; thus,
Their appointed course of time, runs out: faint of
Breath!… (they will not see the dawn).

Note: #907 (written one day after visiting Whita-Pallana, and the surrounding Nevados. Information gathered by talking to the natives of the area ((written 10/27/2005))
